SACRAMENTO, CA – A football game turned ugly Friday night when players from rivals McClatchy High School and Kennedy High School started fighting.
The brawl broke out with just over five minutes left to play. The McClatchy quarterback had made just made a running play and as Kennedy tackles brought him down, players started mixing it up.
News10 witnessed coaches and referees trying to break up the large fight which then evolved into several smaller confrontations.
One coach fell during the melee, claiming he was punched.
Sacramento police, already on scene as is standard protocol, also interceded.
No one was seriously hurt.
Kennedy head coach Henry Lusk requested the game be halted, telling officials, “My boys don’t deserve to finish this game.”
McClatchy was leading, 14-0. The game was being played at Kennedy High.
